FAVORITES: June 2017

I have no words when I think about how fast summer is going. I cannot believe we are already staring July in the eye, but am very excited to see what this month has to offer.  I tried a lot of new products this past month and have finally come to conclusions about many of them.  Without further ado, here is my list of June Favorites for 2017!

My first favorite has been the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Makeup Removing Wipes.  I have very sensitive, combination skin.  If I don’t take my makeup off at night, its a nightmare in the morning.  I use these to remove my makeup before washing my face, or if I’m feeling lazy, just to remove my makeup at the least before my head hits the pillow.  These are extremely gentle, which is very important for someone with sensitive skin.  An added bonus is they don’t smell weird.  As strange as it sounds, I’m very put off by the smell of a lot of makeup removers, so finding these that smell so good was a plus.

I have been trying to prime my face before applying foundation, just to have a nice canvas to work with. I have been using the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer, which is a fan favorite among many.  It’s a silicone based primer, meaning it’s meant to fill in pores.  I have decent sized pores in my t-zone.  For this, I just apply a pea size amount in that area with a brush or my fingers, and it instantly smoothes out the skin and makes it much easier to apply my foundation.

Okay honestly, this next product may be making its way into my holy grails.  I was very skeptical to try it, because I was assuming it had been over-hyped in the makeup world.  The product I’m referring to is Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.  I have the shade Fair.  It is a full coverage concealer that I got about two or three shades lighter than my skin to highlight under my eyes, down the center of my nose, in the middle of my forehead, and on the center of my chin. It comes with a large doe foot applicator, which makes it easy to map out the areas to highlight on the face. The formula is so creamy, and can be blended out with a brush, or with a beauty blender, which is how I like to do it. I will be using this indefinitely in the months to come.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect eyebrow powder for my dark blonde hair.  After months of searching, I have finally found the product. It’s actually something I’ve had for a while, but just didn’t realize how great it was. The Urban Decay Brow Box comes with two powder shades and gel to apply to the brows.  I use the lighter color from the shade Brown Sugar. I apply using an angled brush. First, I outline the shape of the brows, and then use flicking motions in the center of the outline to mimic brow hairs. After I brush them out with a spoolie, it leaves them looking natural, yet more put together. For someone like myself with very sparse brows, this really does the job.

Moving on to eyeshadow, I have been loving my recent two palette purchases from Morphe, but because that was done at the end of the month, I felt I should mention something else that was getting a lot of love in June. I went to Sephora in May and picked up the Naked 3 Palette from Urban Decay and was using this for a majority of the month. The palette has some great rose gold tones and I had so much fun using different combinations of shadows. The only reason I sometimes shy away from this palette is it lacks a very bright shimmer color to put in the inner corner.  The first color is matte, and the second is just ever-so-slightly too dark for me.  If I don’t apply a light shimmer shadow to the inner part of my eye, it can make my eye look closed off, or worse yet, like I got punched! None the less, the formula as with all Urban Decay shadows, is so buttery and pigmented. These shadows are truly beautiful, and I will continue to use them, I just may have to invest in a light shimmer shadow to pair with them.

My other eye product I have been reaching for is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. Another cult favorite, but again I can see why. With the curved plastic applicator, I find this mascara does a great job of lifting and curling my lashes.  It gets a good grip on them, and the formula glides on so easily. I cannot say enough good things about this mascara. I only have a sample size, but I will be purchasing a full size of it as soon as this one goes bad.

For blushes, I have been using a lot of different ones based on the look I go for each day, but I have been gravitating towards this blush most of the time. The Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush in shade 01 is the perfect coral shade for the summertime. The formula is rich and pigmented so a little goes a long way.  It’s silky and blendable, and more affordable than some of the blushes I own. I picked this up at Ulta and it only cost $22, which isn’t too pricey for a higher end cosmetic blushes.

My last makeup product is the Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in the shade Blinded By The Light. I really thought about not buying this highlighter because after watching many reviews, everyone seemed more impressed by the packaging than the product itself. I ended up picking it up because I had an Ulta giftcard, so I felt less guilty if I didn’t like it, and knew in the back of my mind I could return it and get something else if I wasn’t loving it. In the end, I am so happy I purchased it! I’m not one to wear a blinding highlight, so I completely understand why someone who does love a really bright highlight may not like this. But if you like a natural glow, go pick this up. It’s very easy to work with and I find that a few swipes gets me to where I want the highlight to be.  If you are also a sucker for packaging, this is a great product to collect and display somewhere in your room, or with your makeup.

My last *bonus* product is a fragrance! I love the Body Mists from Victorias Secret, especially the Angel Gold Body Mist.  It has more of a sweet smell then I am used to, but I’m really loving it. It’s a nice balance of citrus and floral notes.
