DISAPPOINTMENTS: Products I Will Not Be Repurchasing

August 8, 2017

I’ve been going back and forth whether I wanted to do this series on my blog. I know a lot of beauty influencers feel that listing a product as “disappointing” in a sense, bashes the company who made it. I may have found that these products didn’t work for me, but I absolutely don’t think the companies “failed”.  I use other makeup products from them, that I love and are part of my every day routine.  For me, the products just didn’t work and I want to share my experience using them.  If they have been a hit for you, that’s great and I’m so glad!  Makeup works differently, based on factors unique to a specific person. My philosophy for doing this is to bring insight, so people don’t purchase an item, when really there is something else out there that would work better.

Here is my list of recent products that I will not be repurchasing.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Mist

I’m usually not picky when it comes to setting sprays, as long as they do what they are intended to do.  The issue I ran into with this one is it has a certain ingredient that tingles.  I don’t like the way it feels, and it irritates my face.  The spray itself does set my makeup; I just wouldn’t recommend it based on how it makes my skin feel.

Morphe Translucent Ultra Fine Setting Powder

This is another product that does do its intended job.  The powder itself sets my under eye concealer, and any other liquid products I want set. The problem I run in to is because its a translucent powder, and is so stark white, it leaves a really bad flashback in photos.  It feels really lightweight on the skin, but it doesn’t work well if your going to be taking a lot of photographs. I’ll be able to finish up the container by just wearing it to work and classes, but I’m going to try to find a setting powder that doesn’t have flashback.

Maybelline Dream BB Pure

This one is such a bummer for me.  I’ve been using this beauty balm from Maybelline for probably 3 years now.  The problem I’m running in to is they got rid of shade 100.  This color, 110 light/medium, is too dark for me most of the year. I love the formula and it really helps to keep my acne controlled, but the shade is too yellow-based and too dark for me to wear, unless it’s summer.

Nars Eyeshadow Duo in “Silk Road”

Nars blushes are a gift from the gods. They are pigmented, silky, and apply really well. This eyeshadow duo I have, is another story.  The shadows look to be a satin finish, but also have chunks of thick glitter.  The glitter causes horrible fallout, even using a patting motion on the lid, rather than swiping. I also want the shadows to be more pigmented than they are. I think you can get a better quality eyeshadow, for a lot less money than this duo.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick in “Lock Diary”

This is my first product from ColourPop. I received it in my July Boxycharm and was really excited to try it. The formula is creamy, so it doesn’t leave the dryness of a matte liquid lipstick. My problem with the product was it feathers horribly; you almost have to use a lip liner to make it stay. I could work with the formula in that aspect, but then I had even more of an issue with it when it stained my lips for a whole two days! I scrubbed the product off as much as I could, but I still had a pink cast over my lips.  For me, it’s just not worth using this color, even though it’s a pretty shade.

Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in “Perversion”

I had high hopes for this sister eyeliner of the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil.  I use the 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil for my tight line almost daily. I love the richness in color that eyeliner has, and it stays on really well. I tried this for top eyeliner and a wing, but I could not get consistent application no matter what I tried.  The formula is very water-y, and it isn’t very pigmented.  I purchased this on sale at Nordstrom Rack, so Urban Decay may be trying to reformulate this specific product.

Those are all my products I will not be repurchasing.  If you have one of these products that works for you, and want to leave a comment about how you get it to work, that would be great! Be sure to like this post if you want to see more in this series, and follow my blog for more beauty insight!

High end eyeliners are not worth it, I think that the cheapest ones from drugstores are the best! And also, I’m surprised by poor quality of these Nars eyeshadows, from what I’ve heard, they are thought to be ready good 🤔

I know! I have an eyeliner from cover girl that I love so much. The NARS eyeshadow was so disappointing because the colors look beautiful. 😕

I’ve seen it in Isolde and looked beautiful, the swatch on my hand also did good 🙂 but now that they’re not cruelty free I don’t think I’m going to buy it anyway… which is a shame because I really wanted one of their lip pencils

Oh gosh. You just saved me a lot of money. I was about to buy the tarte mist because I love everything by the brand but now, I don’t think so! 💕 Amazing post!
