SPLURGE OR SAVE: Products Worth Spending $$$

August 17, 2017

Oh boy. If you’re anything like me, spending money on cosmetics can get EXPENSIVE.  It’s hard to keep up with the latest beauty trends, while also saving up for bigger investments.  I try to keep myself in check by balancing the amount of high end products I’m buying, with the products that I can use from the drugstore.  I do, however, have certain products I am always willing to spend more money on, because I know the benefits.  Here is my list of products worth spending money on.

Neutral Eyeshadow Palettes

I have tried numerous palettes from the drugstore, and although some of them are better than others, I find the formula is never what I want it to be.  The shadows can be inconsistent, not pigmented, and chalky.  Investing in a nice high end eyeshadow palette, is much more beneficial for me, than trying multiple eyeshadows from the drugstore, only to end up disappointed.

My recommendations: Urban Decay Naked Basics & Too Faced Natural Eyes

Eyebrow Products

The shape of my eyebrows can make or break how my makeup looks that day.  I don’t go through my eyebrow products very fast, so I don’t mind investing in something that really works for me.  Often, it just takes some searching for what works best.

My recommendation: Urban Decay Brow Box

I have very acne prone skin, and find that if I put too heavy of a product on a zit, it just makes it worse by the end of the day.  High end concealers offer a wide range of types that combat specific problems. The boi-ing industrial strength concealer covers my acne, without further irritating them. I also have better results in coverage with high end concealer.  The shade ranges allow for a full-coverage brightening concealer, to highlight, and also get rid of dark circles.

My recommendations: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer & Benefit Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer

I debated about whether to put eyeliner in this post. I do think the drugstore has a good selection of eyeliners, I just always find myself reaching for my high end ones.  They have better color pay off in my opinion, and are more long lasting.

My recommendations: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil & Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

This one is a must for me.  I can get away with a BB cream from the drugstore in the summer time, but I always feel like a blendable, medium to full coverage foundation, is a staple in everyone’s makeup collection.  The high end brands consistently have foundations that do exactly what the claims say, and most of the pricing can be justified, based on how well the foundation performs.

My recommendation: Milk Makeup Blur Liquid Foundation

Pressed Setting Powder

I always keep a high-end setting powder in my purse on the go, in case I want to touch up my face quickly. It gives a bit of coverage, without adding so much product to the point of looking cake-y. High end powders, in my opinion, have a silkier texture, and I never run into the issue of flashback in photos.

My recommendation: Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder

Liquid Lipstick

The drugstore makes a ton of amazing lipsticks, but I haven’t found a brand that has perfected the liquid lipstick.  The high end brands all have formulas that are consistent, and have great color pay off. Investing in one or two, can be beneficial when you need a no fuss product.

My recommendation: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks

Investing in good skincare regimen has so many benefits. I have personally seen amazing results in regards to my acne, by switching the brands that are non-comedogenic. The anti-aging ingredients in a lot of high end brand skincare helps to prevent the onset of wrinkles, dark circles, and numerous other concerns.

My recommendation: Clinique Skincare Products

What are your go to high end products? Let me know in the comments! I hope you found this post helpful. Like this if you want to see more in the splurge or save series, and follow my blog for more beauty insight.

I never buy a high end pressed powder because I get through it so quickly and think it’s way too expensive to buy all the time. I use Rimmel Stay matte powder and I find that really good! X

Yes! Also the best deal for the amount of product you get is buying the 1oz size online. There’s also a Sephora promotion going on right now where if you buy $25 worth of stuff and you use the promotion code “thirst” and you get 7 samples of it! Hopefully it’s still available.

I personally love them. They dry out my lips a little bit, but not as bad as most of the others I’ve tried. And she just keeps coming out with more and more colors. I don’t have to reapply all day unless I eat something particularly messy and it’s usually just the bare minimal. Y’know, when your lips actually look fine and nobody else can really tell, but you’re super OCD and you can tell? Lol I absolutely recommend them.

Love this post 🙂 I believe the few high end products I’ve bought have always been eyeshadow palettes for the reasons you said in the post.

NARS Natural Radiant Foundation! I also have very acne prone and sensitive skin. Doesn’t irritate, covers everything, and looks amazing for so many hours!
