I’m opening up to talk about my skin, and how it has affected me for the past few years. I’ve struggled with acne since I was 15. My acne has become increasingly worse the past two years, and I am about to take a big step to try and cure it for good. I will be starting Accutane at the end of June. For those who don’t know, Accutane (Isotretinoin) is a drug controlled by the FDA that has been shown to improve and cure severe cases of acne over the course of a 6 month treatment. The pill dosage is adjusted depending on the individual, and requires numerous blood tests, and commitment of the patient and prescribing dermatologist.

I’ve tried just about every drug and topical treatment under the sun in attempts to treat my acne. However, Accutane seems to be the next step for me to hopefully feel more confident, and help my skin become healthy.

I’m writing to see if there is any interest in me documenting my skin journey, while using Accutane these next few months. I’ve been through a lot mentally and physically because of acne, and I feel sharing my experience may be beneficial to anyone in a similar situation.

With that all in mind, please let me know in the comments if you would like me to do a series of posts all about my skin history and updates over the next few months. Thank you so much!

    Hey Morgan,

I’m mostly interested by how your skin reacts to such an ‘heavy’ accutane. My mother had it, and it works wonders!
I’m in the Netherlands and I have bad acne (since my 13th). So I’m really interested in what does it do to your skin. I might try it also..
I’ve been to Croatia, and oh my it works for my skin! It has something to do with sea air, Adriatic.

Hi Paulina! Thank you for letting me know your interest. Acne is the worst! I usually see improvements as well when I’m by the beach in the summer. The salt in the air and water has healing properties, so maybe it could be attributed to that. xo!

Definitely interested! Some family members of mine deal with cystic acne, so I’m sure they’d want to hear about it. I’ll pass it along there.

My 15 years son was on Acutane like you for 6 months. Make sure you keep your skin very moisturized, your lips will need the most love. Sunscreen and lots of water, and i mean lots of it. Sunscreen to prevent scars and also because you will be super sensitive.

Your skin will get worse, do not panic, but the result, even though are based upon the individual, in 4 months your skin will look amazing.
One year later his skin still look amazing.
Good luck and keep us posted as lots of peoples suffer from acne

Hi Morgan! I always break out on my chin etc but I use this at home facial peel, it contains lactic acid which is known to kill bacteria. I would love if you tried it before you went onto the strong medication! It has helped lots of girls! Let me know if you’d like to read about it! x Simona

Good luck and I would love to see an update! I was lucky enough to have my skin mostly clear up around age 29 after struggling for almost 2 decades. I feel your pain ☹️
